»Moon Over Bourbon Street« von Sting

In seinem ersten Soloalbum »The Dream of the Blue Turtle« aus dem Jahr 1985 veröffentlichte Sting das Lied »Moon over Bourbon Street«, in dem es nicht nur um den Mond geht. Er besingt darin das Dasein als Vampir, zu dem er vor Jahren wurde und das ihn nun dazu verdammt, im Mondschein und fahlen Laternenlicht den Passanten in dieser Straße zu folgen …

Es ist eine Besonderheit des Lieds, dass es den blutige Teil der Tat ausspart und nur indirekt beschreibt. Auch das Wort Vampir kommt nicht vor, wird allerdings eindeutig thematisiert, zum Beispiel durch die Zeile: »… you’ll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet …«

Die »Bourbon Street« befindet sich in New Orleans. Man sagt, dass Sting nach einem Konzert dort nachts unterwegs war, an das Buch »Gespräch mit einem Vampir« (Interview with the Vampire) von Anne Rice erinnert wurde, das er zuvor gelesen hatte und so zu diesem Lied inspiriert wurde. Genaueres ist nicht bekannt. In jedem Fall wird auch der Mond eine Rolle gespielt haben bei der Kreation des Lieds, so dass er 7-mal im Text vorkommt. Schaurig schön …
